Going to Lake Greeson next weekend, April 5th. Anyone fish this lake and could give me maybe the hot jig/color to buy? Crappie down deep or have they started coming to the shallows? I have a list of brush piles from the game and fish. Maybe someone who fishes this lake a lot could give me an idea of depth to chase them at?
Thanks in advance for whatever information you locals share. Going fishing and camping with my little girl that weekend. Would be great to put her on some fish.

Get on AGFC website and get brushpile coordinates or Crappie should be in Spawn mode if weather holds.

Whites should be running up the Little Missouri....if you are at Star of the West up Hwy 70.
We always stayed at Jim Wylie....and fished the creek arms and shallow brush (most brush is now gone, sadly).
Guides there catch tons on deep marked brushpiles. If you can find 'em, should do well. Lots of beautiful camping all over that lake. Good luck.
I'm not real familiar with Greeson, but I'm guessing that is all the way up the lake past Bear Creek. Lot of the crappie condos sent to me from AGFC are up Bear Creek so that's where I planned on starting. Many years ago Jerry took my entire family out. He had 2 boats to fit us all. I had the spots he took us too but that old depth finder died a horrible death and I lost all my spots he showed me. :(
If someone knows how far up the river to find the whites please don't hesitate to add. But not having ever been up the river I hope you have some good landmarks or could GPS a spot so I know when I've gone far enough. :)

i can can probably get clear up to the river though in short order or anywhere for that matter. My boat isn't the fastest in the world but it's not slow so don't worry about guessing around the dam area if where I really need to be is way up the lake.
If you really want to go after the whites, drive your truck west on Hwy 70 and relaunch up at SOW Campground area. Fish the river up and down, wherever the water level allows. If they are there, you'll know it in minutes. If not, you can always drive back. I've driven a 25 hp type boat all the way from one end to that end, but it's no fun.
We never did too good on the dam area, or Chimney Rock area.......but a lot of people do! This is all from memory years ago. We went for 2 weeks every single year, around this time. We went for the whites originally, but found the crappie......mostly the blackest black crappie I ever caught.......and you need an E Piano wire to land one of 'em.

Oh. And based on where I'm camped, is there a marina or something near by to get some minnows? I'm not the best crappie fisherman in the world so minnows might help us out a ton. Went to Tenkiller last Saturday and I got skunked. My buddy Kirk caught his and his partners limit the same day so I can't blame the bite for my no fish. Really need to feel like I can catch fish again this year. Been to Beaver trying to get on the walleye spawn and while I have not struck out, two walleye per trip isn't all that good either.
Nimrod, I so wish you were in love with Blue Mountain lake!! Least that would only be an hour drive for me to learn from one of the masters!

I had their card somewhere, but I've lost it. I'm sorry. I'm sure they are listed. I believe they probably still sell minnows. There used to be another store right at the SOW campground on N. side, but no clue if it's still there.
Just spent three days there last weekend. If you can catch a crappie, he'll probably be a big one. One cousin caught a 2 lb 7 oz and another cousin caught a 2 lb 4 oz. Both were caught on jigs, Bobby Garland Cajun cricket color. I, personally, caught 3 last Saturday, 3 last Sunday, and 0 last Monday so my son and I came back home. I think you will have much warmer weather so maybe you'll find them on the banks or in the brush piles.
Someone sent me up the river and I took my son and he caught 5 white bass and had a pretty good time, but they weren't crappie. We went crappie fishing, but just did not find them. The white bass hit the Cajun crickets too. It's about my favorite color.
What few crappie we did catch were up in the creek. Go under the bridge and around to the left. The creek winds around and if you hit the little coves, you might just find a few. Good luck to you. If the fish don't cooperate, go get a burger at Gayle's Diner. Pretty lady with good food. GTT
