Considering upgrading my old Edge45 TM to a 55lb, variable speed motor. Not interested in all the I pilots, co-pilot, ust at this time. Was wondering what you all feel gives the Terrova the nod over the PD and if it is worth the extra bucks?

If your happy with the cable steer and don't want any of the things you can get with the electric steer models just get the Maxum 55 variable speed. Little more money. The PD is harder to launch and retrieve, smaller motor, noiser and I think the turn motor seems to be a bit slower than the Terrova. Some people find the foot pedal on Terrova a little harder to operate.
Do you need a 55 or just looking for variable speed. If just variable speed call Jones Trolling motor and talk to Jack. He may have a fix for you that's a lot cheaper than new motor.
I agree, no reason to go electric unless you plan on using autopilot, copilot or ipilot features. The Terrova is a much better motor. A Terrova with Ipilot in my opinion is by far the best trolling motor for crappie fishing. It has much faster reaction time.
I just bought a maxxum 55 and love it. Got it because I wanted variable speed. Talked to several peoplo that love the remote on the terrova and the xi5 has a better foot pedal
I have had both and if you are set on an electric steer model, the Terrova wins hands down over the PD.
It is much easier to launch and retrieve
It shuts off automatically when in the stow position
I think it is quieter
Use can use both the foot pedal and remote when you have i-pilot
