Water temp was 54 i think.
Thanks for the report !!
If you don't mind my asking ... were you trolling out on the main lake/mouth of Hornsby or back in the bay, itself ??
Also, were they Black Crappie or White Crappie (or mixed) ... and if you caught/cleaned any females, what did the egg sac look like ??
Oh, and don't worry ... I won't be down there for another month, at least, and even then I never fish that side of the lake :Rofl (so your fish are safe :ThumbsUp )

Crappie pappy, We weren't on the main lake. We were Back in the slew next to the campground. They ones we caught were white crappie. The guy with me kept them so i dont know how the eggs looked. That was the first time i had ever fished that area I mainly fish the spring city side
Next time you go to that area, check out the docks in the back of the creek arm that's directly across from Hornsby Recreation Area ..... and those docks in the bay to the left of the mouth of that creek (Rowden Branch ??) before you come to Red Cloud.
Now ... I'm not saying that from experience, mind you !! But Google Earth & a Watts Bar map shows those areas to be potential spawning areas.
Like you, I've spent most of my time at WB over on the Spring City side of the lake ... Piney River & White Creek areas, for the most part (over the last 20yrs, anyway). Prior to that, I basically worked my way down the lake from Caney Creek to the Bayside/Blue Springs area, over the years before that.

Thanks for the tip. I check it out next time i go there. Maybe i see you on the water sometime.
"Maybe" :Rofl .... but, as Watts Bar is a 4hr drive from here, and I haven't been able to get any encouraging reports from there, I don't come down there as often as I used to. That may very well change towards the end of April, though. Got some buddies with the itch to fish WB again, so we may well be there, then. :dono
... luck2ya !!
