I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Blue cat population in Smithville? Where is a good place to catch them?
And Is there a decent size to them?

There are blue cats in Smithville. However, the numbers of blues are pretty low compared to channel and flathead catfish numbers in the lake. I haven't seen one in the years I have sampled catfish with Eric and Scott. We have heard of a few caught by anglers but very rarely.
Matt is correct. The blue cat population is lower, but the high water year 5 years ago should be giving a boost to the population. Blue cats produce better in flood conditions. Last time we had high water to flood some of the shallow flats up the lake was about 5 years ago. I catch them occasionally while trot lining for flatheads.
Thanks for the reply. I had a guy tell me that they catch big Blues all the time in Smithville so I thought I would ask some trust worthy people before I go trying my luck. By the way some advice on a good area to try would sure be appreciated:biggrin.
know guys put in at Plattsburg, when there is good flow run trotlines in the river and get some nice ones using fresh shad and live bait
Missouri river, LOZ, and Truman are producers.
they catch them by the truckload on Truman, there is a slot limit there though that seems to have people fired up....
Try this page Catfish.com Missouri forum it is just like the crappie forum here but only it covers catfish.
