That's a nice mes of crappie from a farm pond. And they eat just like every other crappie I have eaten. Looks like a great day.
Nice string of blacks.
Good idea to take some out. Crappie are notorious for overpopulating a pond resulting in smaller fish. I have a neighbor who said he takes out about 1,000 a year, which he believes keeps them in check.
The pond owner lets me take some out a couple of trips every spring. He didnt stock them and has no idea how they got in the pond ( Im sure from stocking some slipped in ) He is all about his Bass , Hybrid bluegill and Catfish and I have to put all those back. The only Aggrivating thing is keeping a 5-7 pound bass from breaking your crappie pole. It is an amazing spring fed pond about 3 acres with stickups and structure all in it. The Crappie get a little larger every year I fish. They were about 6 inches and paper thin a few years ago and you would catch them non stop. Now that he is letting us take some and has larger Bass in the pond the numbers are down but quality is up.
very nice catch
Nice stringer of fish - I fish a small farm pond for a local guy. He lets me keep what ever I want. There only 3 people that fish the pond and his wife wants all the channel cats pulled out and the bass thined out. There are also some really nice bluegills and crappie in there.
