Denali Creek?
Hey guys, went to Hartwell a few days ago and got a tip that guys were catching big crappie around Denali creek. Can't seem to find it on any maps and the fella that gave us the tip wasn't too sure where it was at either. We filled up the boat but are always looking for new spots to try out. Any help would be great as I don't know Hartwell very well at all.

Heard good report from there Tuesday, but not a area name. Was told they were shallow enough to see sticks moving from the males................never been there but makes me wanna go after the size fish I heard were caught. Strange how those fish are more on schedule than fish down here.

They were probably talking about Eastanolle Creek. It would sound like Denali to someone not from that area. Eastanolle Creek empties into the lake near the Hwy 336 bridge.

I believe you're right Hotwater. It was an old park ranger and the more I say that in my head the more it sounds right. That was my first time on Hartwell so I got a lot to learn. We were fishing the area my buddy calls Gumdrop. Caught a few over 2lbs but most between 1-2 lbs. That was this past Tuesday. Got our limits but had to do a lot of culling towards the end of the day as we were catching the biggest fish between 4-6pm. Thanks for the info.

I believe Gumdrop is known locally as Gum Log. You were probably fishing the Tugaloo Creek arm which is where I would go if I were to fish Hartwell for Crappie. You may have put in at the Franklin County Boat Ramp. If you go North from the ramp (not sure how far) there used to be some standing timber on the right side that held fish. Eventually you would come to the bridge and I believe that is Hwy 328 or Gum Log Road. It sounds like you were on them.

yeah I noticed Gum Log when looking at maps. Brother you're on the mark with those standing timber. We finished the day there on way back in and it produced the most fish. We caught 80-90 crappie all together, so it was a great first trip that will easily get me back. Thanks again for your knowledge.

Good deal. Nice catch. Crappie worry me to death. I can't even get a good nights rest this time of year.
