Sinclair 3/10
Larry and I fished Rooty Creek Yesterday. We got there about 8:30 and concentrated on the uper end. The wind got worse as the day wore on and by four o'clock practically all my attention was on driving the trolling motor.
The water temp was 51 when we got there and got up to 53. We pulled twelve double jig rigs each with a 1/16 oz. head and curly tail and a 1/16 oz. Hal Fly about three feet apart. Half our rigs had curly tails on top and the other half had Hal Flys on top. All our fish were caught on the bottom jigs except one.
Red/Green/Yellow and Brown/Brown/Brown Hal Flys were responsible for most of our fish. Orange or chartreuse heads with Wildcat, black/chartreuse, blue ice, and Big Ed's favorite pink heads and acid rain caught at least one each.
We tried depths from 6 to 16 feet and whatever speeds the wind allowed. Most of ours were caught about 6 feet deep over twelve feet of water at around .7 mph.
Our biggest one weighed 1lb. 7oz. and we had five that went between 1/2 and 3/4 lb and the rest were small. We culled a few runts and managed to bring home 16 crappie and two white bass.
