Enid Lake, MS Trophy Crappie 3-7-2014
My brother and I got a chance to spend some quality time together this past week. Booked a guided crappie fishing trip with Carl Painter of Sardis Lake, MS.
We left Chattanooga a balmy 54* and by the time we got to Sardis the temperature was 41*! The next morning the day of our fishing expedition the morning air was about 27* leaving frost on the truck windshield. It did manage to get up to just shy of 50* by the end of the day. (What is this stuff about Global Warming??) I thought the dogwoods would be blooming that far south.
The crappie caught at Enid Lake have to be better than 12" to keep. You can keep up to 20 per person or 50 per boat. It is truly a crappie trophy lake. The first crappie caught was 14-1/2" and the second crappie caught was 15-1/2". In total for the day we caught 18 crappie with 16 of them 14-1/2" or better. The two shorter fish were 12-1/4" and 13-3/4". It only takes 8 Enid Lake crappie to make 12...honest. After filleting them out we had a little better than 12 lbs. of fillets. Yum, Yum.
The water temp. was 43*. We fished with minnows (spider rig).
