Not sure about the crappie fishing but its pretty good for smallies and LM bass. Its a pretty creek for sure and I enjoy fishing it too if I dont have time to get the boat to barren river or barren lake. Drakes runs behind my girlfriends subdivision in BG so I take her kids down to fish it a lot in the summer. Never caught a crappie in drakes and have been told there are very few if any crappie in it. That may or may not be true though.
If you are talking about the resevoir in Franklin, then yes, a few. But they are small. One over ten inches would be a true trophy.
If you are talking about down below the dam then maybe as they get washed out of the resevoir. Back before they put the new dam in there were several pools down there where the dam was leaking. These had crappie and generally pretty good fish all around. Not sure if people were intentionally putting them in those pools or what but they were there. But they are all gone now down there.
Let me recommend that you fish it like you would a river, and not like a lake. My hint would be that like in a river fish go upstream or up feeder creeks to spawn they do the same on Drakes. Follow the fish upstream as the water warms. Find water with some color to it when you can.
Also, there is more wood and brush down there than you can fish in a year despite the fact that it is a small body of water.
