Motor won't turn
I have a 60 horse Merc on a 1995 Tracker Pro 18. I tried to turn the motor to the side this morning by hand to check the oil level in the view window & the motor will not turn from side to side. The steering wheel won't move either. All lube points have been recently lubed. Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks

sounds like there is moisture in the cables and they have froze up ? Is it sitting outside?

You are correct clfarms1. I put it out in the sun for a few minutes & it is moving fine now. I am an idiot.:biggrin Thanks for the help.

Well at least it was a cheap and easy fix!

While it's moving you might try greasing a litlle at a time while cranking back and forth. Might work out some of the moisture. Spray the rod at full extension with a little WD40.

I had that happen to me once when I backed the boat off the trailer, There I was unable to steer the boat as I drifted away from the landing.
The rod that comes out of the steering cable and hooks to the motor had formed a surface coating of rust inside the sleeve and it was frozen in place. We took a pair of channel locks and were able to wiggle the rod in the sleeve to break the rust loose. Some WD40 and we were good to go.
That was what I thought happened to you when I read your post. Something to keep in mind if it freezes up in warmer weather.
