I have a question-Do any of y'all know of Shaver forced air wood burning furnaces out of Salem Ar. any experience with the product, I of course called them, and looked them up on the net, but sometimes a good ole ask it on Crappie dot Com. will get you a straight forward,no sugar coating answer, so if any one has an opinion......
Let us know what you decide on, been looking at those myself
I don't live too far from Salem; never heard of them. My AC guy sez he likes the pellets better. I think my blistered hands and sore back would too. DP
Beagle, whch Salem are they located in? there are a couple in AR. I know of one outside of LR,a nd the one I think of 1st is outside of Ash Flat in North AR
I don't know that brand, but I used an outside wood burning furnace for years. I live next door to my elderly mother, and we heated both houses with one. It had a water pump that pumped water into the top of an outside unit, and beneath was a fire box. You could burn wood or coal, and we tried both. It then pumped the hot water into each house, filling the hot water tanks, and also filling a unit in the attic that blew air over the hot water pans, through the central ductwork.
Sounds like it would save a ton. But it didn't, for us.
At the time, I was younger and able to cut wood to feed it. And I did. And I did, and did, and did, and did. I spent a lot of time finding somewhere to cut wood, haul it home, split it, and load this thing. It took about 2 full loads a day, and each load was a bunch of wood. We ended up going through about 6-8 cords of wood a year.
As time went on, and I was still working then, it got harder and harder to find a place to cut wood, and to physically keep up with it. It had to be fed year round, cause that was the hot water source too. Then I got older, had a heart attack, etc etc etc...........and it just got to be too much. So we sold it.
Other than that, both houses are all electric, with heat pumps. To be perfectly honest, I never did notice any difference in the electric bills after we got rid of the thing. We saved a ton in not buying wood, but the electric bills were the same.
And that's my experience with it. Others may be vastly different.
Not sure I made this point..............it was very effective. It worked, hot air, super hot water.
I don't know how efficient it was........but it was very effective. Just wanted to make sure I was clear on that.
