Mike Parrot and Whitey Outlaw set the stage for the national championship by weighing in a seven fish limit at 16.13 lbs. to win the one-day qualifier. Sponsored by Rockport Rattler, BnM Poles, Vicious, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Mid South, Yeti Coolers, Ranger Boats, Mercury Motors, Drift Masters and TTI Blakemore, the team stated they found the same pattern during pre-fishing and had to be patient on competition day. They begin the day slow trolling at .5 mph and increased their speed up to .9 mph as the waters warmed which helped catch more and larger fish. Water temperatures warmed from 49 degrees to the lower 50’s as the day progressed. They were fishing in 3-7 foot waters, catching fish just 20 inches deep. Outlaw and Parrot took a few different steps to help catch the shallow fish. They started using Rock Port Rattler Outlaw Max 3 hook jig heads, they turned off their electronics and trolling motor to keep from spooking the fish and moved further away from boat traffic. Their tactics paid off as they earned $5,000.00 plus the $500.00 Trop bonus.
