Chickamauga Lake 2-23-2013 Crappie "Almost Skunked"
Jerry and I went crappie fishing Sunday and were almost skunked. The surface water temperature was 50* and the afternoon sunshine brought the air temperature almost to 70*.
We fished from 8:00 am until around 3:00 pm. we tried fishing docks, deep and shallow water blow downs, bluffs and small feeder creeks. No matter what we tried we could not get the crappie to cooperate. Ended the day with 6 crappie caught with 3 keeper size.
Wouldn't it be nice if each trip to the water produced buckets full of slabs? At times, crappie just won't bite, and getting skunked isn't always your fault. What if you became so good at it that it's no challenge for you to reach your limit. But wait....wouldn't that eventually get boring? NOPE, never mind, my mind got off track for a second.
After all crappie is a food for everything, not the least of which is me; coleslaw at the ready, nicely-headed beer at attention.
Look at the crappie closely. He wears the doe-eyed, mindless expression of something waiting in line at the slaughterhouse to be filleted.
I am glad to oblige, for crappie fillets, burbling gently in hot oil are what is seen through the keyhole of the Pearly Gates. After all, crappies were created to be eaten. Kingfish
