wind direction ?

what are y'alls thoughts on the crappie bite and wind direction ? I was at talquin a few years ago , we got there at 9 am but checkin was not until 11 am . we put boat in and fished for 1 1/2 hours till checkin , ended up with 18 gooduns and a few throw backs then went in to checkin . after checkin went back out and did not get another bite for the next day and a half . wind was out of the west best i can remember before checkin then changed and came hard out of the south and didnt get another bite . was looking at going down end of next week but am going to have to check wind . 10 day forcast for the time i was looking at going is winds out of the south and ssw . what y'all think ?

Good question.

I always try and make a run each way - into - with wind sometimes bite
is better one way than other. Stay away from running cross winds if they are
high, too muich movement on boat for spider riggin.
High /low pressure fronts during winter months, i believe makes big difference down
here....

Don't know but I know when long lining there have been a lot of times where I can a fish every time in one direction and nothing coming back thru! Don't know why

several reasons can apply to this ..............

1. is fish in feeding mode or reaction strike mode

2. is fish running with water current of lake or into current of lake.

3. what end of lake is wind pushing top water debris, algae or anything that
will float
4. check depth - are you running a large/small hole or hump whereby fish are on
edge of same to catch what falls in hole or in ambush mode off back side of hole
or hump.- to catch what comes over hump or ridge

Take time to check wind direction, water temp and contours of what below you by
use of sonar - better look if you have down imaging avail.

Ill pay closer attention. my old fishing partner use to swear they were all facing one direction. most of the time it happens to me we are in flat areas

Ole Mr Crappie is an extremely structure orientated fish.
Something has got to be close by that keeps him in the area you are fishing.
It could be a depression in muck/mudd no more than 2" deep, that he will use
for an ambush location. All water to some degree moves from almost nothing to
a riptide current.

I normally always fish going with the wind, very seldom do I catch fish going against. I have never seen or noticed a certain wind direction to make a difference. The fish can be caught everyday of the week if you play your cards right. Figuring out the pattern is the best and most rewarding part of fishing IMO.

Thanks for the response guys , I don't mean catching fish going one way or another , I have experienced that many times . my question is , at Talquin , per my original post , have you guys seen fish absolutely turn completely off with a south or southerly wind ? I fished down the for about 10 years straight , February and march , had fantastic trips on all but maybe 2 . the trip I was referring to was the one where wind changed in a matter of an hour and fish turned totally off for next 2 days . we fished from blounts all way up to harvey and couldn't buy another bite . I have not been down in a couple years and am planning on coming down within the next 2-3 weeks . looking at the 10 day forecast for Quincy , the temps are great but the wind next Thursday , Friday , Saturday will be southerly. have y'all experienced an off bite at talquin with a southerly wind ?

Like stated above no certain wind direction (meaning north, south, east, or west) makes a difference in my opinion. Fish change throughout the day, especially crappie. Just because you caught them in one area at a certain depth in the morning doesn't mean that pattern will hold up all day in the same spot. You have to try diff depths, colors, and speeds.

Sorry, i failed to read the part about fishing at Talquin - just was moe concentrated
on wind direction of you post.
Having never fished Talquin could not really help you, other than you last response
saying the wind suddnely changed direction and fish shut down. Barametric pressure
will cause this at times and time of year.
