Looking to vacation on Lake Marion this summer and the house looks to be located a couple miles up Taw Taw Creek. I have heard good things about lake marion fishing, but I was wondering if the Taw Taw Creek stretch has any good crappie spots? We will venture out on the big waters for sure, however, if I was going to take a quick morning run was wondering if I could do any good staying close to the house.

I dont see why not. I wasnt after crappie but have been in that area a bunch back in the years I shot fish and catfished. From memory it looked to me like it would be a good fishing area.

It's a big creek, with some pretty deep water through out, along with some nice shallow flats as well. It's a well traveled area, with 4 large boat launching facilities. Boat traffic can be bothersome if nice weather is forecast. The John C. Land boat ramps are the best on the lake, and are where all major fishing tournaments launch from. Crappie and bass are your best bets from late February through May. Catfishing is good all the time, with super shell cracker fishing from late March through April. If heading out to the main lake, to the right is an area called the Cow Pasture, to the left Black Bottom, both are really good places to try as well. Wind can be a big issue out on the main lake or just getting around to the two other areas Ink mentioned. Be careful and stay in the boat......there used to be alot of alligators around in those areas too.:)
We will be down there the first week of June. Not the ideal time I know, but its more of a family vacation than a fishing trip. Hoping to be able to get out on the water early every day though to give it a shot. Thanks for the info...sounds real positive.Quote:
