I have a three bank charger that I leave plugged up year round. After a day of fishing, (daylight to two thirty or so in the spring or fall) the first two years they will recharge in six to eight hours. The third year it may take twelve hours to recharge. I don't pull cranks so it sits idle during the heat of summer. When do most of you change them out and should I unplug when it's out of use for an extended periods. I check the water levels every couple of months.
I plug mine in right after I put the boat away. When the batteries are 100%, I unplug them. Then the night before I go fishing again, I plug it back in. I found doing it that way doesn't boil out the batteries nearly as fast.

I have a minnkota charger, and i leave mine plugged 24/7..............the charger is supposed to automatically turn off when batteries are charged........at least that's what I'm hoping, lol.
I know that is what they are supposed to do..... but I am scared! I have a brand new MinnKota 315D. Is it OK to leave it plugged up all the time? Really? Why does that not seem like a good idea to me?Quote:

I leave my MinnKota 330D plugged in 24/ 7 year around when I am not fishing.....never had a problem....its what MinnKota recommends. It is a digital battery charger and it will not hurt a thing.
