daddy's rule
my dad always said if something wasn't useful (plant or animal) you got rid of it or you ate it....well, groceries were low so went to the city lake with chicken livers I had in freezer to see if I could get a catfish or two....didn't stay long due to equipment failure but remembering my dads philosophy since the chicken livers didn't catch me dinner they became dinner----before you think I am nuts I didn't eat the ones I took to the lake I returned them to the freezer to redeem themselves on another day and I cooked from another carton in the freezer that was suppose to be bait one day...just as well I didn't get a catfish--I prefer eating crappie, bass, hybrids etc its just usually a sure thing to catch a meal when your fishing for cats

Never had any luck with chicken livers- as bait or dinner Rivie. But save the heads from the next crappie you clean and drown them for a catfish fry. Your Dad should be proud of the results. Good luck!

Chicken Livers...YUMMY!!!!! I have not had those for a while but my mouth waters thinking about them. I agree with ciller, crappie work well for bait. Atleast you got to get out for a little bit. Hope you got the equipment fixed and can get back out soon.

I'm with Swollencrappie there. Love me some chicken livers. I was under the impression you couldn't use sport fish for bait but Josh lined me out on that. I'm now saving all my crappie heads and ribs for the catfish lines.
