I am having a problem viewing the screen. It's not as clear as my HB 570 and when your viewing structure( brush piles) it does not get as dark as it should. It does not if your in di or regular mode or screen.

I am having a problem viewing the screen. It's not as clear as my HB 570 and when your viewing structure( brush piles) it does not get as dark as it should. It does not if your in di or regular mode or screen.
Have you tried resetting the unit to factory default settings? It could be that it has been adjusted to such a degree that it is giving you the poor viewing.
Is this a new 581i HD DI unit or has this just started happening?
Check all of the electrical connections between the 581i HD DI unit and the battery it is powered off of. No loose or corroded connections, even the fuse holder, fuse and battery connections. Make sure your battery is in good shape too by having it load tested.
It's not the connection's. It has to do with the screen, contrast, and the darkest of thing's on the screen. There to light and need to be darker on the screen.Quote:

I had the same thing happen on my 1197 when my battery started going bad...
One day was hunky-dorey...next day I could just barely make out anything on the display even with my hands cupped around my eyes against the screen...
Battery load tested bad....
