Big Sandy Fishing Report for First Week of Febryary
Hifolks. Welcome to Richard Williams Outdoors.
Thewater levels here on Kentucky Lake have come back up to around 355 and a half. And with both the Pickwick and Kentucky dams spilling a little over 55 thousandcubic feet of water per second, it looks like the levels will stay about thesame for a while. The surface temperatures are still in the 30’s.
I would love to be able to talk about people catching fish. However, most of the boat ramps have ice around them thick enough to keep folksfrom putting their boats in the water. The only ramp that I know of that is notfroze in, is the one on the east side of the Paris Landing Bridge at GraysLanding. For the people that want to fish in the Big Sandy, that is a long wayto run. And with the weather as cold as it is, not very many people will wantto run that far. So again, this week I do not have any fishing info to talkabout.
There is going to be an outdoor expo on Friday the 22ndof this month at the Birds Creek Baptist Church. It starts at 6:00 in the evening. Birds CreekBaptist Church is located on Whitlock road just past the railroad tracks on theleft. There will be some folks talking about crappie fishing and I will even bethere talking about some of the different Humminbird sonar units and what theycan do.
Here it is, the first of February again. And it’s almosttime to renew your hunting and fishing license. The new license will not beavailable until around the 17th or the 18th. But that isjust a few weeks away. The license we have now will expire at the end of thismonth. And you can bet that the folks from TWRA will be out on the lake in fullforce March 1st checking tomake sure you have your new license for this year. I don’t know yet if the costwill change for this year, but I can say that it will be a lot cheaper if youget your new license before March 1st than it will be if you waituntil you get caught without them.
Spring is right around the corner and in just a few moreweeks, it will be time to go fishing again. Now is the time to make sure yourboats, batteries, and other fishing is up to snuff and ready to use. It will behere before you know it.
