I've used some stuff from the fly fishing shop to deice my rod tip guides in cold weather but, it doesn't last but a cast or 2. Does anyone have something that they like to use to keep their gear from freezing.
It was so cold today that my line was even freezing on the spool and made it hard to cast even when I had the eyes clear.
Always just swished my tip in the water before a cast.
I do that as well but, it's been so cold lately that it freezes about as fast as you pull the tip out of the water.

build a fire in the fireplace and leave the rods in the rod rack near by= no ice in the eyes. works for me!!
have u tried wd-40
WD-40 is a petroleum/solvent based product ... and is probably not a product you'd want to expose your monofilament fishing line to, much less the waters you're fishing. :twocentsQuote:

crappiepappy, a little wd-40 on the eyes of your rod is not enough to cause pollution to the water in my opinion, and as often as line needs to be changed it should not be an issue. I wonder if rain x would work, just a silly thought
Get a tube of chap stick - rub it on your finger and then put it on your guides
X2 on chapstick. Use it on my ice rods.
