Lowrance Elite 4x color depth sounder help!!

Today was the maiden voyage with this new unit. Price at Bass Pro was $169. On sale for $20 off plus a $50 visa rebate card, so $99. I had a $25 gift card and sold the old Garmin 100 echo black and white on craigslist for $40. So net to me for the new unit was $34. Not bad! Anyway, here are two pics of roughly the exact same area (give or take 10 feet- hence the different depths). When I turned the fish ID off I get all of this crazy color noise per this photo.

Too much going on for me, so I turned the fish ID to "on" and then it started looking like this...

I like the cleaner screen, but would rather use the arches instead of fish ID. Any thoughts? If I turn fish ID "off"...I get all of those colors and dots like in the first photo. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas. Thanks a lot.

Check and see if sensitivity is in auto if not try that or lower it some and see if that lowers some of the interference? go into the simulator and play with the adjustments to see what works best to clear it up. Hope this helps

Yep gonna be a sensitivity adjustment , when you turn the fish ID on it is filtering out the crap. Amazing how bright those little units are!!

Sensitivity problem. What I would do is find the reset to factory defaults option and hit that, then leave it alone (it will run in "auto" mode, it will automagically adjust for given conditions). I have a different Lowrance model, but I'm sure they operate about the same. I leave mine in auto mode 99% of the time works great without even touching a button. They have gotten pretty smart over the years.

I have a 5X color on the bow...Turn fish ID OFF! it shows everything as a fish! Go to menu / settings..find ..Simulate...Then hit enter I think to adjust sensitivity up or down...I have mine set in advance mode and 82% sens..and 76% colorline. I usually leave surface noise / clarity to off....

Don't have manual right in front of me but You get the point....

Were you running the trolling motor when you were getting the picture . I get a little interference while running my troller , so I use different batteries , just a thought.

Thanks for the help and replies. I restored the default settings and made sure that auto sensitivity was on. Also, surface activity was "off". I changed it to "Low" and it made a big difference as well. Anyway, I'm getting closer...Here is a pic with those changes in place. The original 2 pics were taken when the trolling motor was not running.

I have the x-4 on my trolling motor and a cuda 168 on the back . both will do what they say .Hard to beat for the money .If I fished tournaments and different lakes I would have a better graph . what you have and a handheld gps will serve you well .:twocents
