LCR gives up 29 specks

Conditions at LCR were perfect at dawn today--65 degrees, light breeze, patchy fog, and WT of 46*. As was the case all week, fish hugged the bottom at the edges of what's left of the grass beds. Minnows with and without jigs claimed a few fish when water depth put them near the bottom, but it was impossible to park the boat in just the right depth water. Instead, I switched to casting jigs and enjoyed a much stronger bite. Fish hit on the fall as the jig neared bottom in water ranging from 14' to 18'. Pink jigs with white kiptail worked best, but gold/yellow/chart/green combos also claimed several. I fished for 3 hours and was off the water before the heavy rain, high wind, and tornado. For the day, about 2/3 of my total of 29 were a keepable size, the largest of which were a pair of 13-inchers.

Good work. I never have learned how to fish that lake.

It's tough. There's lots of deep water and very little structure. Grass and bottom contours are your best pointers to places that might hold fish. After the cold weather finishes killing last season's grass, the fish should move out into deep water and school up. From then until the pre-spawn, it's hit & miss. After the spawn, points can be good. If you're lucky enough to locate some structure, it usually holds something.

Thanks for the report. Thinking about hitting LCR soon. That is a tough Reservoir out of 10 trips there last year 2 of those trips I was able to find fish.

Did ever try a double jig rig casting in that deeper water it works good over here in the rivers. We tie em bout 20 in.s apart 1/16 oz. on bottom 1/32 on top kinda works like drop shotting just the wieght is the bottom jig we often get doubles that way.
