Vertical Tube Style Transport Rod Holder Ideas

I'm pondering ideas for making myself a vertical tube-style rod holder for transporting my long rods while going down the lake. I have the Driftmaster tip saver holder that I use for transporting the rods to and from the lake, but looking for something to slip the rods into while running the lake to a different spot. Putting them back ing the Driftmaster is just time consuming. My idea was to use PVC being its light weight and relatively inexpensive. Looking at 12-16 tubes, maybe. Plan is to mount on my trolling rack in some fashion(Which I plan to reinforce just out of precaution and extra sturdiness). Wanted to see if anyone had something similar that they can share some pictures. Thanks!

A sack full of T's and some pipe in 1-3/4 in or 1-1/2. I have mine mounted to the inside wall of my rod locker on my stick steer. No pictures handy. Do you have a pic of your back deck and trolling rack. Thinking there might be a couple of different ways to do what you want.

What kind of rid holders you have. Monk sells driftmasters rod resters like this. Stand them up going from spot to spot.

This is how I store mine. Using PVC 4 way joint connected by a short PVC sleeve. If I am running a long way I move them to the vertical tubes in the center of the boat. I have 2 3rod holder rigs on the front and they are set up the same way, with 3 cross pieces instead of 2. By the way, I got the knob adjusters from Lowes to replace the wing nut which is hard to tighten.

That good looking lady is my 14 yr. old granddaughter who loves to fish with Pop. This was a summer evening/night striper trip, but you can see the vertical tubes mounted to the rod storage box.

Cray - I will try and get some pics one day to give a better idea of what I'm looking to do. May have to stagger the holders front and back to get the number of holders I'd like.

Newly - My 12 T-Bar holders are Tite-Loks. I have 6 Driftmaster duo holders on my Trolling Rack. I had originally thought about the rod resters, but decided against it for a few reasons. It would only a lot for holding 6 rods, and 4 out of the holders on the rack are tilted forward for getting the rod angle where I want it for trolling and would like to keep from having to adjust them.

Sea Ray, I do believe the 4 way couplings would work well for me. I could attach to the front and rear of the rack to space the rods out. I'm fabricating ideas in my head as we speak!

mttoney I went with the PVC pipe it worked but did not look as good as I had hope it would and added a lot of bulk to the T-bar. I ended up ordering the Rod resters from Monk and they have worked well and do not get in the way like the PVC did.

SeaRay I like your T-bars and the knob adjusters are a good add on. I made my T-bars myself and now you have me thanking about redoing them again.

Blacklandlure on the MS board made mine for me out of aluminum. They work great. Attachment 147086 I have them mounted behind the driver and passenger seats...they hold 5 each.

If you decide to use PVC, opt for Rigid non-metallic electrical conduit instead. It is UV protected while PVC is not. If you're not familiar with RNMEC, it is gray in color, plastic, can be glued together, has most if not all the same fittings (and some that are specific to conduit) as PVC , it's about the same price as PVC,it can be purchased anywhere that electrical supplies are sold like Lowe's or Home Depot and it will last many more years than PVC.
