So we catch a lot of fish on curly tail grubs in the spring. Going to start early this year. I am guessing in the early season with the water colder it may be better to use something smaller or with less action? Any recommendations? We will be casting or vertical jigging over cover.
Also, notice any changes in color pref as the season starts then progresses, assuming no change in water color of course?
Charlie Brewer Sliders works for me. As far as colors goes....seems every year alot more new colors are introduced so my tackle bag grows more and more. The colors I caught fish on 3 years ago hardly ever gets fished anymore cause I like the newer ones better. In other words, I think the colors hook the fishermen more than they hook the fish.
Color choice is not that big a deal as far as seasons go what catches fish in the winter will catch fish all year long. Water clarity is more important than seasons. You just have to experiment and see what works on any given day. When I tight line I use 8 different colors and then see what fish are hitting and then change a few rods to that color. I use a combination of curly tail, sliders and anything else in boat all year long and I don't change size of grub. Hope this helps
I have found I do better in colder water with Hair jigs verses plastics or feathers.

The hair jigs have been working good through December and should be good this month. Sometimes you just have to try a few different colors or baits to find the color they want. Like Butch I have a lot of baits I don't use but the main colors do seem to change each year. I believe this has to do with the amount of rainfall we have in any given year. A lot of people uses pink, it is the last color I try because I have more confidence in other colors like chartreuse, blues, blacks, yellow, orange. Confidence in what you are using is 90 percent of fishing.
I have bags of tackle only because I can't go into a sporting store and leave empty handed.....:dono
Are yall tipping the jigs with minnows or just using jigs alone? Just curious. I always tip mine with minnows but then again I rarely have the success you fellers talk about.
In colder water, I prefer the hair jigs. And, tipping w/ meat is probably a good idea as well. I like the action of the hair/feather jig because I present the bait much slower in cold water. The hair/feather breathes even when sitting still.
