Polycarbonite Tipped Bullets

I shoot a Browning X-Bolt rifle in the .270 Short Mag. caliber. Yesterday, after the 15 turkey hens left my patch, an 8-point walked out at 5:15pm. I took a broadside shot at 40 yds and the deer just took off running. No blood or hair in the patch and I found only four drops of blood in the woods, in the first 100 yds. Apparently, the bullet never opened up, just punching a small hole in the deer. I could tell when I shot that the deer didn't feel any impact. I never found the deer. I'd heard good things about these bullets but I'll not be using them again.

It is not the tips fault. It is the construction of the bullet behind it. I have used Nosler accubonds since they came out and they are bang flop. Some are made to expand at long range, some close in. Nosler and Hornady SST's seem to be very good.

Apparently, these are the long range bullets then. The tips are very hard. I've seen other bullets like the ballistic tips that have a softer plastic tip. I'm going with the Sierra boat-tail pointed soft points in the Federal Premium.

Scott we use those in our 243WSSM and love em, not sure what happened but the couple we have recovered have opened very well. Thats our go to bullet.

My gun is zeroed in and this was a 40 yd shot out of a shoot house with a rest. I had the crosshairs just behind the shoulder and halfway down his body. He just took off like something scared him. Normally if not knocked down, they will react like a sledge hammer hit them. I just punched a .270 sized hole in him.

I dont know, I like the 444 for the closer shots. Makes me sick when this crap happens, know you are.

I still use the old Winchester Silver Tips and never had a problem.....they are pretty hard to beat. The old Remington Core-Locs work good for me too. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it lol

Silvertips for me...never had a problem. At close range it will turn 'em for a flip!

I shoot Barnes Vor-TX in every gun I own for deer hunting. Since I switched last year have not had a deer move more that 10 yds. But most shots were from a 7 mag or 35 Whelen. YouTube the bullets and you can see them shot through ballistics gel
