Windy on Jordan!! Sunday 12/22/2013
My brother and my 2 nephews (Bolt and Chase) were visiting from the mountains this weekend. They wanted to do some hunting on Saturday and and catch some crappie on Sunday. We hunted Friday evening, and while a few deer were seen, nobody got to take a shot. Saturday morning, Chase the youngest, had 3 deer sneak in on him, and in his haste to get his gun on them, he banged it on the stand and they ran off before he could get a shot. Saturday evening, Bolt got his first deer ever, a doe. He dropped her in her tracks with a perfect shot through the heart. So Sunday, we wake to already strong winds and knew it was going to be a rough day on Jordan. We started under the 64 bridge, but due south winds were creating near white capped waves and the rods looked like birds wings in flight. I had the trolling motor on the 6 and 7 power settings just to hold still in the wind. Chase did manage to catch our first crappie, a fat 11" slab, but after an hour of no more bites and getting punished by the wind, we decided to seek some shelter from it. We ran back to the Ebeneezer bridge and even though we still had to deal with more wind than I like, it was 10 times better than the 64 bridge. We trolled under and around the bridge and started picking up fish. Most were too small to keep, but there were enough bites to make it fun. We loaded up just after 11:00 so they could make it back home before dark. They had some deer meat and fresh crappie fillets to take home with them though. Here are Chase and Bolt, with their big fish of the day!
