I have one up front on my boat and it works great. There are a lot of good choices out there but the 597 for the money is a fine unit. You should be very happy.
I have one and it is a good unit.

I had one it was awesome, upgraded to its big brother is the only reason I don't still have it!
I think this is not a very good choice. Three years ago when Humminbird 2D/DI units were the only on the market this unit was more or less OK with having just one 2D/DI split view. Now three more sonar companies offer 2D/DI sonars with up to four 2D/DI split views.
When in boat everybody keep eyes on the right side of the screen, and on vertical splitting fish is more visible:

597 DI has the only horizontal splitting that is on the left above, that is good for nothing IMHO.
Now there is no need to go to bigger screens, and buy big heavy batteries, when there are available more readable views on the same screens.
The unit is good, but software is too old.

Rickie, thank you very much for advice, I did not know of that. I will certainly place my suggestions in the wish list. Although this is a Side Imaging forum, all SI units of 300, 500, 700 and now new 600 series again have that just one 2D/DI split screen view , no options. The same with DI units of these series.Quote:
