A lot of info on trolling motor shafts by searching under 'advanced search' this forum. can be done ran mine on trailer with motor down, took shaft out and got it straight and has worked well for over a year.--shu

That's a neat idea, i think you could put one together for about $15 though. Even less if you use your workbench top. Just 2 hooks, a piece of all-thread, and a few nuts and washers.
In reference to changing the shaft, that's not hard either. Most use quick disconnects on the wires and then all you need to do is put the shaft in a vise (or use a pipe wrench) and apply a bit of heat to where the shaft threads into the motor housing and it will spin right off. You need the heat as there is most likely high temp Loctite on there.
