Keep in mind that there is no such thing as a "fish finder". Some units will display a fish symbol when it gets a return from something. That something could be a fish, a suspended log or even a beer can. Most modern units are getting away from the fish symbols and concentrating more on detail of the bottom which is much more important. If you want to actually see the fish then you will need an under water camera although the new side scans can give fantastic displays. But they are pricey. Give one of our sponsors a call and tell them what you are looking for. They are a lot of help and have great prices on what they sale.
How large of a display are you wanting?
Color or black and white display?
What sort of sonar are you wanting it to have?
Should the unit be able to use a mapping card?

I've had a HB 597 cihd for about a year now & I like it alot.
Don't rule out refurb units. I purchased a unit like this 4 months ago. Comes with a 1 year warranty. Lots of bang for the buck.
