Lake Conway Water Level

Just a heads up. We currently have 5 of the spillway gates open to get the water back down to the normal winter pool level of 262.0 feet. It is currently 6 inches (5/10ths) above this since we received this last round of rain. I know that a lot of people say this negatively affects fishing. So I am puting this on here as a courtesy. As I have said in the past, we don't want to drop the lake this time of year, but unfortunately we have to, to help prevent flooding during the wet season in Arkansas. As soon as the lake gets back down to 262.0 feet, we will close the gates. Sorry about the inconvenience if it affects your fishing plans. Thanks.

Matt any chance of Lake Conway or other lakes every get a spillway that would help hold water at a section depth and then open gates when there more rain then what the spillway can hold. I just think outside the box.

Thanks dude and I promise I want blame my short coming on the water level anymore. Lol. Well unless it gets real bad and I use up all my excuses.

CrappieBob - the short answer is that the AGFC has invested a substantial amount of money for the feasability of this for Lake Conway. We have completed the hydrological portions of this investigation. The next step will be to see if a 500 ti 1000 foot spillway could be physically placed in the dam area. We will have to ask the commission for more money for this study. Hopefully they will approve. If you would Luke more information on this topic, I can send you a report or we can talk about it. FYI. We have got the lake back down to a lower level. All gates are closed except the pipe that feeds Bell Slough. Go get em boys!

Thanks Matt letting us know. I think a spillway would be a great thing for Conway water. Do you thing the Mayflower corp will be behind something like thing or fight it. Again you may need to Pm me on that, just kidding. I think they like someway to hold water close to the set depth. How full is Bell Slough?

I think everyone would be onboard with a spillway. This issue is the cost. We are talking about a MILLION dollar plus project.

As of Friday, Bell Slough was about 35% full. Should be more now.
