New Thread
Well, new in 1987! Question is, have any of you used sewing thread for tying? All of this

was salvaged when I found this

under the bed in the Guest Bedroom. It was the late 80's when my wife was sewing up a storm for the daughter's clothes. The rack & thread has been shuffled from closet to closet to under the bed for over 20 years. I took a length of a nice Blue and used a clamp to weight 1 end and tied this with it just to test the strength. I tugged on it pretty good and it held up fine.

I don't have an answer for you Pepop. But, why not? What was used back in the early days? And if sewing thread was used, was anything used on it to make it last longer?

I have tried to use sewing thread without much success, too fragile. But that was a long time ago. I do use kevlar thread on special projects.

Cool rack. Seeing thread works just fine. Most is stronger than what we tie with, it's usually larger diameter so ya gotta watch how it builds up.

I buy a lot of sewing thread from Walmart in any other place that I can find good thread try some a your sewing centers they will carry a large variety also we buy it in the large schools maybe several thousand yards spools good news from a friend of mine in China she is bringing a lot of thread home so we'll have to make a trip and pick it up I believe that she has about 25 to 50 spools or more I believe that she was still looking for me I believe that she sent me a email said that she picked up 25 spools for a couple of dollars of American.

At least some of it should be fine. Give it a shot!

Thanks everyone for the input.

I've been using thread in my jig tying. Its held up fine. None of my jigs have fallen apart and they have caught there share of crappie and stumps, brushpiles.!!!!!

I think it would work fine. Have you ever tried to take thread like that and pull it apart?? Its pretty tough. I tried Hobby Lobby last night while my wife was decor shopping and found chenille...alot...and LOTS of colors...but it ALL had wire in it...go figure. Thought I had hit the jackpot. LOL
They also have hackle and other feathers, but they are really stemmy
