Tilt problem
I have a mercury 60hp outboard. Its a 1989 model. The tilt has stopped working. When i hit either up or down switch there is only a small "clicking" sound. The sound is coming from two small plug-in modules (relays?) located on top of the outboard motor. I tried different batteries so its not a power issue i dont think. I noticed over the last few trips the tilt was acting up. Sometimes it would stop working then would work fine for awhile. Im not mechanically inclined so hopefully someone can help.
Thanks.

Take a good sized screw driver with plastic head or something on that order. Tap on the head of the motor where the brushes are. Really need someone to click switch off and on while doing this. Not that you can't do it by yourself. I have found a lot of times the brushes are sticking. Don't beat it hard or on the sides. On some motors you can knock the magenets loose. If you have a meter you can find connections to motor and make sure your getting power out of your solenoids.

Are the relays square plug ins, or is there two solenoids. Difference is solenoids go to a three wire trim motor and relays use a two wire trim motor. If they are the relays (about 1" square with 5 pins that plug in), then somewhere between the relays and the trim motor you will find two bullet connections, one blue and one green. disconnect them, ground one and feed hot to the other. The trim motor should run. If it doesn't there is a trim motor problem and needs to be repaired. I can do that if you're willing to ship. If it does run, then change both the relays. The relays work together so both needs replacing at the same time. You can get these through a parts store, or I have them instock.
