Shad

Has anyone ever had any luck getting shad when the water cools off? Do they leave the coves this time of year for deeper water?

Yeah they usually head out to deeper water. You'll want to use the fish finder to locate them and then use the largest throw net you can throw. Some people who catfish Milford attach another section of rope to their nets main so they can get down to the shad during the winter

Don't be afraid to try heavy metal and bucktails to conserve/replace shad. Shad are in the coves at night.

I hadn't thought about that. I've had good luck with the shad and kind of got tunnel vision. The weather isn't looking to good for this weekend, might end up waiting.

When striper fishing Texhoma this time of year, we would be in the back of the cove right before 1st light.And has the sun comes up we would have about 30 minutes to net shad before they would be gone.
