Yeah they usually head out to deeper water. You'll want to use the fish finder to locate them and then use the largest throw net you can throw. Some people who catfish Milford attach another section of rope to their nets main so they can get down to the shad during the winter
Don't be afraid to try heavy metal and bucktails to conserve/replace shad. Shad are in the coves at night.
When striper fishing Texhoma this time of year, we would be in the back of the cove right before 1st light.And has the sun comes up we would have about 30 minutes to net shad before they would be gone.
