Looking to move up to a HB 1198. A buddy has a box and switches from transm mounted to tm mounted transducers. When I was speced out what I needed it had a Y cable instead of a box (I think. Don't kno much of that which I speak). Which is better?

If you want to switch between using the transom mounted and trolling motor mounted HDSi transducers you will have to use a Transducer Switch like the TS3.
The various Y-cables only split a part of the sonar off and allow you to use multiple transducers instead of just one. Example: a transom mounted HDSi transducer connected to an inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer via the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.
How are you trying to use the 1198?
I had the TS3 switch that is recommended by Greg and it worked perfect for me.
I still use the HB TS3 switch ...

Lol. Danny I bet the three of us hook that thing up we will see things nobody has ever seen before. You are right about one thing for sure. I need this stuff broken down in simple English.
Fellas, I believe what I'm hearing is, if I want this thing to work at its fullest potential I need the box.
The HB TS3 switch allows you to hook 2 xducer's to 1 head unit and simply flip the switch to choose which xducer you want pinging thru the water...
TS3 :: Humminbird :: Transducer Switch
