Anybody else hear last nights fall migration? From 5pm-11pm, when I went in, the geese were nonstop flying over Salina. In my younger days this would have led to a little insomnia, possibly even some drunkenness, to get through the night. I've been hearing the water-fowling is awesome this year, as in pick a species and hunt. But, nope, I'm not coming out of retirement, even though it sounds tempting.
I know there was a lot of birds moving south on the way to work this morning. Might have go check out the pond tonight after work.
It was non stop. Lots of new birds in. Shot birds I never have this morning...buffleheads. Snow geese woke us up last night.

I know I was outside for probably 20-30 minutes and I saw quite a few groups heading down. Could be real fun come Saturday.
Been seeing a lot of birds moving the last week here south of Salina too! Like you to, I hung it up some years back. Sold the Mag 10 and all of the dekes, but sure brought back a lot of memories of good times. But I'll keep busy calling fur and fishing the fall and winter months. Still have several buddies chasing honkers but the old body just can't take the wear and tear anymore:( Don't much care for getting old....Quote:

OK, the dog picture melted my wife-nice. :HandsClapping We had a lot birds moving E and W the next morning here. One of my last ducks was a Redhead, big, picture perfect bird, with jewelry. :biggrin As it turned out, the duck was almost 9 years since being banded. It's file was actually archived and took quite a extensive time to locate. :ThumbsUp
I missed a drake canvasback. He was a good looking one. Also one of my 2 hunt old GHG canvasback decoys sank sometime between when I put them out and when it was light enough to see well. I remember why I told my self not to buy anymore every time I get them out. I am hunting tomorrow morning, fishing Friday, then hunting for the next few days after that. Have to get a blind put up on a pond this weekend as well.
I don't remember my last duck I shot...sure it was probably a red legged mallard...but I do remember my very first duck. Eight years of age and hunting with my dad on what was then a Saline County Rod and Gun Club pond. A beautiful drake cinnamon teal. Only one I've ever seen in the wild. Remember dad stripping down to his shorts to retrieve that duck too! :Rofl
Ah, now there's some memories. R/G Club, those were some of my own memories, including the human retriever. We hope our kids do better than ourselves, so my son watched me retrieving ducks while the pond was freezing up when he was younger. He decided that wasn't for him and got himself a lab, smart kid.
