What is a slabfest? Sounds like yall have fun.
It is an event where we, as a group, decide before the "season" starts when and where we are going to fish. We plan on a Saturday, so those who have to W***:banghead and not retired (retarded):Rofl are able to join in.
Schedule at this link. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/flori...btogether.html
To start, we decide upon a place to hold the event. If we are going to cook, we look for a place which should provide a shelter, Pavilion, place where we can set up some gas cookers, clean restrooms and running water. Also a good ramp to get our boats in and out of the water, AND a body of water which might hold come crappie.
New this year, we have scheduled a few SLABTOGETHERS, where we will gather at a predefined ramp to fish until a predetermined time, return to the ramp and weigh our catches. NO food will be provided. Bring your own lunch. Weigh-in is scheduled at 3:00 PM. This gives those that travel long distances a good long day to fish.
At the events where there is a cookout we will have fried crappie filets, hush puppies, and other picnic foods, which are provided by the members.
We have donated door prizes which we give away and a donation jar, which helps with purchasing the trophies and the cooking supplies.
We are not a tournament group, which charges for entry fees, like some other groups.
Come join us and get your feet wet. Ask questions and give ideas on your fishing experiences.:fish
and I'll add, an awesome group of guys/gals....
I attended my first in October, and was invited to fish the November get together..., excellent hospitality, great times, awesome food...
It's a haul for me coming from Lakeland, but definitely worth the experience, and the knowledge and willingness to share information is outstanding.

I've been a member since 2005, but just over the last few years have started to go the the fests. After the first one I thought to my self "Why the H--- have I not done this before." You will meet great folks, eat great food, enjoy good fishing/fellowship, and hear some real BAD stories :biggrin. Join in looking forward to the Talquin Slabfest this comming weekend.
