I think my motor was telling me something before this happened. It would not go fast. Only seemed to run on one cylinder. But I stopped and fished a while and when I cranked up the motor it ran fast and fine, for a little while at least. Then water started pouring out the engine compartment. I opened her up and found this. Attachment 141410

And before anyone asks. The motor was peeing the whole time. I know enough to make sure there's water flow through the engine, but I guess there wasn't enough. The water flow looked strong though. hmm, I dono why it happened, but I guess I'll have to research it to see if it can be fixed. The cap on what looks like the thermostat was screwed in at some point, but it's been completely ripped out. And the sensor next to it looks blown out too.
I would replace both. Yes, you are right, its the thermostat.
Does it screw in or does it look to have any hold down bolts? From the pics I do not see any.
Guess we are having some of the same luck today. I'm tearing a water pump and thermostat out of a Kenworth today.
Looked again. I'm thinking that is not good at all. Looks like the cap on the thermostat does screw in like you said. Look very close at those threads. May have to try to chase them with something. Depending on the way it holds the thermostat, you MIGHT be able to tap the hole and use a brass plug from the hardware store. There isn't alot of psi on that thermostat anyways. Brass is pretty soft and should seal. I would not use teflon (liquid or tape). On our trucks I have found that the best sealant is a product called Rectorseal "T plus 2". That stuff will seal anything. You can get in the plumbing section at any hardware store. They use it in alot of the chicken houses in this area also.
Its a plastic composite of some sort, and the threads melted off in the head. The engine must have really over heated. Sure, I can prolly tap it, and replace it. But with it overheating like that is there a chance there's other damage?
Check the compression, if compression is good then I doubt anything else was harmed, hope anyway. If you are still in Florida it should be pretty easy to just find another head for that motor and in stall it, simple simon on those motors. I know it was peeing but looks like a water pump failure as well so it will need replacing.
If it is just plastic in there you shouldnt have to tap it, just get the old plastic our and a new one should screw in I would think.Quote:

It could be the thermostat was stuck closed causing the overheat. It may have been a good thing it popped out and began to let water thru to cool it down. :twocents

Gots to order parts now. The local marina here don't have them, already checked.
