HDS 8 blinking off and on

Installed per instruction but when I go to start motor after initial start-up unit either starts back up looking for sat. or just goes black any ideas do I need to run primary power wires to battery instead of off switch like previous fish finder ? Also seems like unit just flashes alot does show structure and all just fine but kind of acts like a cp rebooting itself. And if I leave unit on for along time while fishing with the trolling motor after awhile it just shuts off is this a feature to not run battery down?

:dono ... but, it sounds more like the battery isn't putting out consistent power to keep the unit functioning correctly. At least, that's what I remember from previous discussions about units going offline from battery drain (or low voltage level).

Are you only using one battery to run big motor & trolling motor ... or are both batteries connected to a panel/fuse box/switch box ??? Sounds like you may have some sketchy connections if connected to a panel ... or big motor/trolling motor on one battery could be drawing too much voltage to keep unit receiving the proper amount of juice.

Electronics should never be connected to the TM battery.

the newer breed of FF are very picky about the flow of juice, they need a consistent source, sounds like a bad/weak battery or bad connection(s). Could run a temporary power/grd wires with a fuse straight from the battery to see if it behaves during a normal day. Or buy a $25 lawnmower battery and use it in the test run.

Low voltage, be very careful. Have your battery tested with a load tester, if it's good check your wiring.

Not connected to tm batteries. Main battery checks just fine with load tester. I am thinking power from switch may surge or cut off when starting engine. Think I will run two seperate lines straight from main battery to power switches for hds and lss box. Thanks for imput.

Make sure you get one with a negative bus for your own convenience.

Run a pair of 12 gauge wires from the battery to the box. Make sure to fuse the feed at the battery with about a 10A fuse to handle everything. Then you can install the inline fuses from the units in the fuse block and run wires to feed your units.

Great fuse panels. I bought the 12 circuit for the console, it's fed with a pair of #10 wires directly to the battery. I also bought a 6 circuit like the one in the photo for the bow, it's fed with a pair of #12 wires fed from the console panel. It makes for a neat wiring job.
