The first attempt came out like E.T. LOL Let's try this attempt. This is a custom mixed speckled grey powder paint. Then I also tried to put some "gills" on the head. There are two different colors of marabou on the tail. The bottom in the picture is grey with white on top. I was trying to simulate a bait fish with the white underbelly and red gills. What do you folks think?

Good work Bobo. As you play with those and test them you're gonna find that really go off the charts. Good color choices.

Now that's good! That little hint of red wasn't in your first one, or did I just miss it?
Bobo I find that when I want to imitate a gill it is just better to use a red tying thread to tie down the chenille. Tie it thin just a small band is all that is needed. Then cement it in place and your good to go. I do this on all my Grey Ghost patterns and have found that the fish won't leave it alone. There is something about the small band of red like a gill flash that drives them to hit.

Bobo use the red tying thread to tie down your chenille. I have been tying in the grey or silver chenille with red thread and using three wraps to tie it at the head and then whip five turns to fasten it in place. This makes a nice small band of red and then use head cement of your liking to cement it in place. I figure that a millimeter to 1 and 1/2 mm. is big enough. When a jig whizzes by them they are going to think its a minnow or bait fish in stained or dirty water they are going to get a quick glance and think free meal. Our water here is dirty and stained most of the time. It is the reason that I figure I do as good or better than the live bait guys most of the time. The fish just get one quick look and have to decide quickly if they want to hit it or not.

Thank you Redman for explaining the coloring on that one. I will switch out the light thread for some red thread and then it should be in good shape.
