Transducer installation question

Installing a 998 on the console of a nitro z7. There is already a lowrance mark 5x pro flush mounted in the dash that picks up depth readings at speed very well. My question is would you try to install the si ducer low enough to read at speed or put it higher on the boat to protect it and use the lowrance for running on plane. Definitely will need the mapping in the 998 so both units would have to be on while running. Was told I would have to turn the sonar off on the 998 while running so it won't interfere. I really only want to do this once so any help, advice, or pics would be great. Thanks folks. Need all the help I can get.

I would mount it to the jack plate if you have one and not wory about it and run the 998 in full map when running and use the lowrance for depth when on plane. The likely hood of the two interfering with each other is slim at best.

Mount the HDSi transducer where it is protected yet will still work well for the Si sonar.
You can use the other unit for high-speed depth readings (I would turn the Sonar on the 988 off when doing this) or install an AS-Si-DB-Y cable and XP-9-20 transducer inside-the-hull for high-speed depth readings on the 998 unit inself.

Thanks for the feedback I received. Should I wire the 998 directly through to the battery or try to go to the master power switch on the boat through the box? Nitro leaves wires in the bow to wire to but I can't find any extra for the console mount so I assume I would have to splice into something!

It is always recommended to wire the unit directly to the battery with a wire gauge large enough to carry the power needed for the length of run needed...

Every point where depth finder power supply are common with other wires lends to the possibility of RF interference...

New wires and twist them together is even better....

If you have a open slot in your fuse panel I would go that route. Saves a splice in the wire for a fuse and when you turn the master switch off you know its off. Just remember to power the unit off or the changes you made will not be saved if you just turn the master off.

I would use a new blade-type fuse holder too.
Solder all connections and seal them against moisture.
Multi-stranded copper wire is best in a 16 to 14 AWG.
