I picked up 2 10 ft. Day Dreamer kayaks today so I'll be starting into the thin water fishing. But more for the grandkids to have fun with when we go camping. They both have double upright rod holders behind the seat and 1 rod holder out front.
Anything I need to do or know of before hauling to different states?
Well, I can't really speak to the "hauling to different states" part, and I'm pretty new to kayak fishing myself, but I'd make sure you tie down what you don't want to lose! I cut some rope and tied them to my poles and added carabiners to the other ends. I don't know if your kayak has various attachment points for "stuff," so you may want to consider that. My kayak has bungee attachment points all around it and I have carabiners in several locations. They come in very handy.
For your safety, please remember to take the PFD and wear it while fishing. You can replace everything except yourself.
They have a double x bungee cord across the front. The flee market is in town this weekend. I'll go and get a few packs of carabiners.
RR, wearing a PFD will be my number one demand for anyone in one of them.
Kayaks can be addictive, paddle with caution and enjoy your surroundings. The youngsters will enjoy and remember what grandpa did for 'em.
Never had or heard of any issues while paddling in any of the states. Zebra mussels are the only caution I'm hearing about these days. Just
wash 'em down and don't haul any of the lakes mud/water home with you.
One of the grandsons has plans to fish from his next weekend. Their fall break is next monday and tuesday. The others just want to have fun in them.

The family had a ball with the kayaks this weekend. The 6 year old took her first trip around the lake with her dad in the other one. The 3 and 1 year old's went with their dad, one at a time. We tried a little fishing but couldn't find any big ones. Flat water is a bit harder to paddle than a white water river.
