Bought a new one!!!!
I have been thinking ,since I put a screw through my transducer cable going to my Elite 7 HDI at installation, about replacing with a new one. We spliced the cable and it seemed to work fine. Last Wednesday it worked while I was fishing. Went again Thursday and it didn't work???? Didn't know if it was working to max with spliced cable (still don't). I decided to buy a new one rather than re-splice the old one I am making a temperory install and will report back if I can determine any difference. .... fishing is really fun and EXPENSIVE... crappie1133

You should not see any difference "IF" you cut and repair the cable, When you cut DO NOT remove the aluminum shield foil. Need to remove several inches (4") of the outer cable jacket to expose the shield and wires.
Cut the shield and wires approx. where the broken wire is, this will put the repair in the middle of the repair.
Cut the ground "bare wire", cut the remaining wires. Using wire stripper pliers, or sharp knife if you are careful, remove approx. one inch of insulation off from each wire end.
Get some shrink tubing that will fit over the outer jacket and place about a 6 inch length on each end of the cable that was cut. Move tubing well away from the work area. Place a piece of small shrink tubing (2") on one side of the exposed wires (only on one end of cable). Using a pair of insulation pliers, or a sharp knife if you are careful, remove about 1 " of insulation from each end of the wires.
Twist each end of the exposed wires to create a tight wire bundle.
One color wire at a time, lay the wires side by side and twist together. Now you should end up with a straight wire. Apply some heat with a soldier iron, then apply some solder, enough to just cover the wire splice.
Repeat the process with the remaining wires just be sure that you do not touch the heat shrink tubing with the solder iron at this point.
When all of the wires are soldered, move the 2" pieces of tubing over the splice and heat the tubing to shrink over the repair.
Be sure and solder the ground wire together, This will not need any tubing.
Now take the aluminum shield foil and wrap it completely over the repair, from both sides, be sure to overlap the foil where the foil ends.
Now relocate the larger pieces of tubing that was place on the outer jacket to cover the repair, heat one section, let cool then relocate the second piece to overlap the first and heat to shrink that piece.
Now that the repair is almost complete, it can be waterproofed by using "liquidtape" to cover the entire repair. Reattach the cable to the Elite 7 HDI to check for proper operation.
