Little Maumelle Crappie (pics)

Went to the little maumelle yesterday and today. Had a pretty good day yesterday. I just about couldn't do anything wrong. Gooch met me out there this morning, and they wouldn't hardly bite at all. We tried, but just couldn't get anything going. Saw JHook out there, and I believe they had about the same luck today. I still can't figure out why they'd be killing it yesterday and do nothing today??? Oh well, it was a beautiful morning to be out there.

Saw a hot air balloon out there, just over my shoulder. It was much more impressive in person. Did y'all see it J?

Here's the haul. I caught most of em' yesterday morning in about 12-14' of water with rosey reds. The crappie on top was 14.5"; hopefully more big 'uns will start moving in next week.

CEB I just wonder how many times in my life this makes that I got the "you should have been here yesterday" fishing report. Had a good time fishing ans scouting. I am looking forward to setting out some more boo Tuesday and moving that big condo you found. Thanks for following my wishes and not posting my pic.

We get the roseys at Zimmermans on University. 5 bucks for a half a pound of em.

Has anyone figured out how to keep rosey reds alive? It seems that they can't hardly take any stress at all.

Alot of it depends on the condition they are in when you get them. If they are in good condition, without any parasites or fungus and you keep them in fresh, aerated water they will last for weeks. The water temp is also important in relation to the amount of roseys you have and the amount of air they need. The warmer the water the more air. Cooler water holds oxygen better. Fifty-eight to six-four degree water works great. Right now I'm using seventy degree lake water and giving them plenty of air. Another thing, to keep the stress level down, don't allow the water to warm up too much or too fast nor should you cool the water too fast.

How do I know all this -- because I've KILLED thousands and thousands, LOL, and still do all too often. Experience is a good teacher. Oh yeah, and when you dump 5 pounds (appoximately 100 dozen) in the back floorboard of your truck, it stresses them out.
