Proposed License Fee increases ......... FYI

Looks like I may only get to use my $5 Senior License for this year :banghead :Rofl (and that's after having to buy a regular Hunting/Fishing/Trout licenses to be legal until this past June, when I turned 65)

Looks like I'll be ponying up the $82 for a Senior Lifetime License ... and hope to live to hunt/fish for at least the next 8 years (to get my moneys worth vs $11/yr )


These are "proposed" changes, and may or may not be instituted ... and may not be finalized at the currently proposed prices. We'll just have to wait & see.

That's probably something you're not suppose to figure out as you might catch them in a lie. You know how government officials can be.

Hate the idea of an increase, but still a good deal. Hopefully it keeps our fish and wildlife like it is for the future. After paying for the Sportsman one for years, was looking forward to the $5 when I turn 65 next summer.

Might have known! I just turned 65 but don't need a new license until next year. Sometimes I wonder if the government doesn't like me. :scratchhead

When you look at all the youth summer camps, fin lakes and numerous other programs they have for the kids. Then look at stocking programs, district biologists, public hunting opportunities and other services the KDFW offers. I have to say that as long as I can afford it I will support whatever they need.

I'll never regret the money i've spent on the licenses for my sons and myself. This year when I bought my youngest, he's 22 now, his sportsman's license, I told him he'd buy his own from here on and he said "Thanks dad". Hard to tell what direction they'd gone if I hadn't, plus it gave me and them a lot of memories. Did I mention i've got great kids! :biggrin

Rickie there was an article in the paper a couple weeks ago explaining it. The federal money that our Fish and Wildlife receives depends on the number of license sold. From what I read $5.00 for the senior license doesn't cover the cost to print them and the feds didn't consider them as being "sold", so they were going to cut that portion of the money. IIRC it costs $6 to print the license and the $5 increase will cover the rising costs for a few years and meet the feds requirements.

The costs of my sportsman license is the best money I spend all year hands down. One of the things I've always thought KY should do is charge a non resident whatever his/her state would charge a KY resident to fish/hunt in their state. So if New Mexico charged a KY resident $1500 for a bull elk permit KY would charge a New Mexico resident $1500 to hunt bull elk here.

Justin ... they used to do that in Alabama. When I first started to go to Weiss Lake, that's how they figured the license charge for out of state anglers. They'd check your drivers license for proof, then charge you what a Alabama resident would be charged in your state. I thought that was pretty fair reasoning. I don't think they still do it that way, though.

I think even at $11 the Senior License is a great deal.

I wish Tennessee would adopt some sort of Non-resident Senior license. To buy a non-resident All Species License, (which you need to fish any water that contains trout, unlike most states where you only need a permit to keep trout) and a Reelfoot permit costs me $98.
