Anybody tried there lately. I had a sad day traveling to a friends funeral near Evangeline and the procession went across the pontoon bridge. The water looked good so on the way back I got down for a closer look. Really looks about as clear as it will get.
I may have to go there next week to get that spot out of my system after today's inspiration.
Got a report from a guy that said he talked to someone who was catching back towards Crowley. That was a couple of weeks ago. Just got back from a little midday trip on the south end, fished from 10-3 and ended up with 26. As usual on jigs with a nibblet 7-9' deep. All really nice fish. I use basin jigs, silver body white tail and blue wing but pretty much anything with a silver body works well.
I fished where you went a few days ago and caught a few, but it was a 10 mile paddle total to get where I wanted to be. Too hot right now for that. Will probably try Estherwood Tuesday for no other reason than I haven't been there yet by yak. I like seeing new spots, and who knows I might see something good. It's not often I would want to go there, but the time seems good for it. Glad to see you are still finding fish.
It's a shame there aren't more access points for kayaking. You could probably put in at the yacht club and save a few strokes. If the water looks good at Esterwood I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find some, I've only fished that area a couple of times in my life so unfortunately I have no advice to offer on which way to go. They do catch good numbers down there at certain times so I hear, hope Tuesday is one of those days. Enjoy the sights and I hope you find a few good spots.

You could also put in at the Old Ferry. Take the Egan exit off of I-10 and go south to the river. That would put you 3-4 miles south of the Bridge. Thats by the old refinery also.
Let me know if you are going. I'm limited with work but it might happen.
@Daily, I was looking at that ferry road on Google Earth and wondering if it was gated off or something. I would really like to launch there, and I am for sure going tomorrow. You could make a short trip of it if you have work. Call my cell if you want to go. I'm going to my daughter's right now.
Launched at the old ferry and picked up 4 keepers. I did 7 miles with half up and half down. The water was pretty and the bayou nice, but I didn't like the what I saw. There are no nice trees hardly and you can see that the tree removal crew had been up there. When they dredged it years ago it had a long term impact. Lot's of chicken trees along the bank. Only one other boat in the neighborhood. I'm sure it has a time when it's good, but I'll leave it alone for now.

Sounds like you had a very peaceful trip withe the lack of boat traffic.

Also I was able to make 3 trips on my short days off. 22 - 18 - 4. Four being the last trip. What I noticed I the first two trips the water was lower than the third and had a current. On the last trip the water was 6-8" higher with no current. Not sure if they closed the locks or what actually happened there, just an observation.
