Have always stayed clear of force motors but really have no basis for this . My nephew called and ask me about buying one . Can get it cheap, but not sure he should buy it . What say you ? 40 HPR. NOT SURE OF AGE (TEN YR. -GUESS ).

torch should be able to tell you all about it
Have always had a bad taste in mouth about them, never see one repaired if something major goes wrong. Until a major prob they run good, if the price is rite and it checks out it should be fine. Resale wont be good and it wont help the sale of a boat to have it on there.
I just googled them coach........apparently they were made by Chrysler and everything that I found and read about them was not good. Google Force/Mecury outboard motors and take a look around.
Torch and Sat should be able to tell you about them, due to the fact they have experience with them.
I have a 1997 75 hp force have never had a problem. 2 lower unit rebuilds from hitting rocks. The power head is a merc. lower unit Chrysler.Runs like a champ.
it depends on the year !!!! Mercury bought Force and produced them from 1990 - 1999.
Previously, they were made by US Marine, and Chrysler before that . the 90 thru 99 would be a good buy if the motor checks out good !!!
I had a 1998 40 Merc/Force and it ran perfect. Never any problems except it was too small for the rig I had it on. Not the motors fault.
Never had a Force Eng but have seen some that had maj problems and noone around here to fix them.
Force motors have a bad reputation and most mechanics refuse to work on them.
