Which is best hooking through the eyes or hooking through the lips?....and why ?

I prefer through the eyes. Mainly because it saves me minnows! Lots of times the eye hooked minnow will slide up the shank of the hook and live to entice another fish. When tipping jigs, I lip hook them though. They seem to ride better on a jig that way.
