Noticed game and parks does not list Tuttle as having wipers as far as I can tell in the reservoir but they say that you can catch them in the tubes below the dam and Rocky Ford. Wondering why this would be the case.

Skinner, I don't know the answer to your question. But using this chart that Craig Johnson linked in another thread, I was sure that we caught some wipers in Tuttle this Sunday. I guess it could have been small striped bass, tho.
How big was your fish the fishing forecast showed that they netted close to 4 pound white bass out of there during sampling this year. There were no wiper or stripers sampled at all. There are only a few lakes in the state that have fishable numbers of striper.
Hmmm. Well Ragnar caught the biggest (didn't measure) and I looked in a couple of smaller one's mouths. Swore I saw the 2 toungue patches...that's what I was looking for. But then again, I'm new :dono. We called them white bass until I came home and looked up that handy reminder chart above...then I was convinced they were wipers. guess not.
They could swim up to Rocky Ford via the Big Blue River. I've never caught any at the tubes or in the River Pond and have no idea how they'd get in there without being stocked in the lake.
I haven't either but KDWP fishing report says they are catching them in Rocky Ford etc.
Skinner80,
To get you the best answer, I sent your question to Ely Sprenkle KDWPT Fisheries Biologist for Tuttle Creek reservoir. His reply is below.
During some years, especially the last two, there are a lot of wipers caught at Rocky Ford. Tuttle Creek has never been stocked with wipers, so these wiper would be from fish swimming upstream that were flushed out of other reservoirs (Milford). However, there are some giant white bass in Tuttle Creek Reservoir right now and some of these 4 lb fish could be confused with wipers.
Thanks Craig this is what I was thinking kind of amazing the taveling distance some of these fish have done to get to the areas they are. There are smallmouth in the creeks on Ft. Riley as well found 10 plus miles from were they had to have entered from the Kansas and Republican Rivers.
