Mercury 150 XR6 and local repair shops
Hey all, I have the above mentioned XR6. It's a 2002, been garaged with the exception of time on the water. Knock on wood, it has always fired right away after being put in water. Now it fires right away and runs like a top. Then we stop to fish/swim, and it doesn't want to start. It acts flooded and finally fires, runs rough, and smokes up the lake. After running, its back to running like a top.
I'm hoping replacing the spark plugs will do, I've owned the boat since new and replaced them once (2003, seriously). Do you think this will work, or do I need to prepare for a rebuild???? Is it safe to run for now and finish out the summer?? I usually fish all winter long.
I remember my dad owning a 2 stroke Mercury and rebuilding several times. I don't want to get into the "Money Pit" boat scenario.
If it does need to an overhaul, what recommendations do everyone have about the ProCraft dealer in Glenpool? I've used them 2X for the lower unit and water pump and been very happy.
You guys sound off, please!
