Dardanelle Advice

Long story that y'all don't wanna hear.......but me and Mama are finally gonna work in a 4 day trip to Dardanelle State Park on Friday...... we had ONE night in the new camper before grandkids, and my mother, and etc etc.......intervened.........and we are leaving 08/08 for about a MONTH in South Carolina to see the new grandson......that my daughter adopted (age 10, has some 'catching up' to do, but with love will be good before long).

In between we are just gonna stop all we're doing and go camping. MAIN reason is shake down of the camper. I want to try and figure out the Direct TV (which will take me 349,023 hours if I know my skills), among other things.

Weather is BLISTERING hot for the next week. Here's my Fishing Question:

I do not know Lake Dardanelle. I'd love to learn it, but I don't. Is there any point in my taking the boat and fishing it? I wouldn't know where to start, other than chunking minners at shoreline cover.... and I know Nimrod is ok during really hot weather, but many lakes are not.

If I take boat, wife has to take 2nd vehicle (not a big deal, only 50 miles away), but I wonder if we'd even use it in this heat.

So what would you smart folks do???

I really don't need to answer this cuz I'm not real smart! I'd take my boat if I had to leave the wife at home! But I'm the type of guy that fishes all day in 100 degree heat and don't mind if I only catch 6 or 7 all day. Any time I can be on the water, I'm happy!!

If the heat is tough on you, put you an umbrella up on the deck of the boat. I use a 6' patio umbrella on mine. I even put carpet squares down on the deck and through the floor so I can walk around bare foot without burning my toes!

Oh I can fish in the heat. I'm old and have 'bad heart' so I can't do a LOT but I fish in it. I have an umbrella setup, that's cool.

My real question is............"WILL I CATCH ENOUGH FISH TO MAKE IT WORTHWHILE"????? I honestly, seriously, have 'stuff to do' with the trailer, etc....and am about to embark on a long stressful deal, so I'm going mainly to take it easy. I just am asking Dardanelle Knowledgeable Fisherpersons for advice on whether I'd catch enough to bother.

I know I AM low on fish in the freezer!!!

No reports on Crappie but heard small Stripers are breaking out there

Yuck. Wouldn't eat a striper on a bet!! :Rofl

ha. We used to catch 5-6 pounders on ultralights in the winter at the Nuke Plant cove..........years and years ago.

If you say the crappie are not biting really great, then I think I'll keep boat at home. Save a bunch of trouble really.

Lol! He didn't say they werent biting well. Just said no reports. I have been out there twice in two weeks and caught fish both times. I think you will catch a few if you take your boat and hit the ruver channel. The shoreline cover thing may not work too well though.

I have found that when it is hot, hit the main channel. Watch the water moving around the jetties, when you find a jetting that the water isn't spinning around behind it, check for deeper water and possibly some brush. They are not going to be on the shoreline in this heat. Go early, then head back to camp, and nap when it is hot.:fish
